A Transit System That Actually Moves

"The dedicated TTC workforce does its best to keep us moving, but chronic government underfunding constantly undermines the system."

Austin Vieira

Fixing Route Bunching on Woodbine (91/92): The 91 Woodbine and 92 Woodbine South bus routes suffer from severe bunching and unpredictable service gaps due to corridor congestion. I will advocate for the implementation of transit signal priority and strategic queue-jump lanes at major bottlenecks like Woodbine & Danforth and Main & Danforth, alongside exploring targeted RapidTO priority bus lane measures to keep East York moving.

The Main-Danforth Connection Master Plan: Main Street Station is a designated Protected Major Transit Station Area (PMTSA), bringing inevitable high-density growth to the hub. Commuters currently must brave a stressful, poorly marked 250-metre outdoor walk to transfer between Danforth GO and the Main Street Subway entrance. I will mandate a formal "Main-Danforth Connection" strategy to implement immediate weather protection, high-visibility wayfinding, upgraded lighting, and enhanced pedestrian safety along this critical transfer path.

The Development-Transit Link: Density should not outpace infrastructure. Building on missing-middle pilots like 72 Amroth Avenue, The Missing Middle Pilot Project, I will introduce a policy requiring a mandatory TTC service frequency review for local neighbourhood routes, specifically the 62 Mortimer and 87 Cosburn, whenever significant residential density increases are approved in the ward.

Zero-Obstruction" Winter Snow Clearance: Navigating the ward in winter shouldn't be dangerous. Following ongoing resident complaints regarding massive snowbanks trapping passengers, I pledge a "Zero-Obstruction" winter maintenance policy that mandates immediate, priority clearing of snow accumulation at all TTC bus stops and streetcar platforms across Ward 19.

Expanding the 404 Community Bus: I will advocate for expanding the service hours and route layout of the 404 East York Community Bus. This expansion will directly connect underserved senior residences in the ward with Line 2 hubs, ensuring our seniors are not forced into difficult 10-to-15-minute walks for basic transit access.

A Noise-Smart, Livable Beaches–East York: Champion a "Noise-Smart Infrastructure First" policy. I will ensure that the city uses every tool at its disposal to force Metrolinx to deliver world-class sound barriers, rigorous vibration mitigation, and real community accountability before more tracks are laid.

Bikelanes

"My mom is a dedicated cyclist, and she has given me plenty of ideas on how to improve our Ward!"

Austin Vieira

The "Eastern Gap" on Kingston Road:
Extending protected bike lanes along Kingston Road between Main Street and Victoria Park Avenue. Currently, the network in this area is fragmented. A dedicated lane here would provide a safe, direct diagonal route for residents of the Upper Beaches and Birchcliff to reach the Danforth subway line and the downtown-bound cycling spine.

Main Street North-South Connector:
Implementing cycling infrastructure on Main Street from Danforth Avenue north to the Taylor Creek Trail. Main Street is a transit hub (Main Street Station and Danforth GO). A bike lane here would bridge the massive gap between the "Destination Danforth" lanes and the recreational trail system in the north, allowing commuters to safely bike to the station rather than driving.

Cosburn Avenue (Eastern Extension):
Extending the existing Cosburn bike lanes (which currently serve Wards 14/15) eastward into Ward 19 toward Woodbine or even Victoria Park. Cosburn is a wide, relatively quiet residential street. Extending these lanes would create a safe, east-west alternative to the Danforth for families and students traveling between schools and local parks.

Victoria Park Avenue "Complete Street":
Converting the western edge of Victoria Park Avenue (the ward boundary) into a protected multi-use path from the Beach up to O'Connor Drive. As a boundary road, it is currently hostile to cyclists. A "Complete Street" approach here would safely connect the waterfront's Martin Goodman Trail to the northern O'Connor bike lanes and the Gatineau Hydro Corridor further north.

St. Clair Avenue East (O'Connor to Victoria Park):
Adding separated lanes on the stretch of St. Clair Avenue East that cuts through the northern part of the ward. This area near the Topham Park neighbourhood is currently underserved. Lanes here would connect the residential northeast corner of the ward to the O'Connor Drive infrastructure and the nearby shopping plazas.

Main GO Station

Build a direct, fully accessible, and safe sidewalk path leading directly from Stephenson Avenue (located just southwest of the Main and Danforth intersection) along the renovated Hydro One transmission station right to the northern Danforth GO platform.
